Purple Joe Pye Weed (Eutrochium purpureum) is a structural plant with large panicles of pink flowers in summer, with additional sporadic blooms into fall. They prefer moist to mesic soil in part sun where they can grow up to 7 feet tall. They are a good choice for slopes. Companion plants include Cinnamon Fern (Osmunda cinnamomea) and Wild Geranium (Geranium maculatum).
Maintenance
When in flower, some stems may need to be staked. To prevent aggressive spread by seed, deadhead post-bloom in August.
