Long-beaked Sedge

Carex sprengelii

Long-beaked Sedge (Carex sprengelii) is a groundcover plant with grassy foliage that prefers moist to mesic soil in part sun to shade, growing to about 2 feet tall. Colonies form as the plants mature, making them a good choice for groundcovers on bioretention slopes. Companion plants include Woodland Phlox (Phlox divaricata) and Wild Ginger (Asarum canadense).

Maintenance

Cut back foliage to three inches in late winter. Foliage will actively grow in spring and summer when soils are cool.
