Sneezeweed (Helenium autumnale) is a seasonal plant with yellow blooms in late summer through fall. They prefer moist to wet soil in sun to part sun. They grow up to 5 feet tall and are a good choice for wet, sunny basins. Companion plants include Southern Blue Flag Iris (Iris virginica var. shrevei) and Palm Sedge (Carex muskigemensis).
Maintenance
Plants may need to be staked while in bloom to prevent flopping. To reduce the mature height, and therefore its susceptibility to flopping, cut the plant back by half in late May or early June. This trimming can also be done post-bloom in late fall. Powdery mildew and rust can be occasional foliage issues.
