Elm-leaved Goldenrod

Solidago ulmifolia

Elm-leaved goldenrod (Solidago ulmifolia) is a seasonal plant with yellow flowers from mid-summer through fall. They prefer shade to part sun in mesic soil where they grow up to 3 feet tall. They are a good choice for the slopes of shaded bioretention installations. Companion plants include Short’s Aster (Symphyotrichum shortii) and Wild Geranium (Geranium maculatum).

Maintenance

Rust and powdery mildew are occasional foliar issues. To prevent aggressive spread by seed, deadhead after blooming. Plants may spread aggressively by rhizome.
