Missouri Ironweed (Vernonia missurica) is a structural plant with magenta blooms from late summer to early fall. They prefer moist to mesic soil in full to part sun where they grow up to 6 feet tall. They are a good choice for the basins and slopes of bioretention installations. Companion plants include Sneezeweed (Helenium autumnale) and Southern Blue Flag Iris (Iris virginica var. shrevei).
