Aromatic Aster (Symphyotrichum oblongifolium) is a groundcover plant with purple flowers in late summer through fall. They prefer dry soil in full sun where they grow to 2 feet tall. They are a good choice for dry banks. Companion plants include Prairie Dropseed (Sporobolus heterolepis) and Butterflyweed (Asclepias tuberosa).
Maintenance
To discourage spreading by seed, deadhead in late fall. Cut dead foliage back in late winter.
