Bearded Iris (Iris germanica) is a seasonal plant with varying colors in late spring into summer, depending on cultivar. They prefer mesic soil in full sun where they grow up to 3 feet tall. They are a good choice for slopes and banks. Companion plants include Bradbury’s Bee Balm (Monarda bradburiana) and Purple Love Grass (Eragrostis spectabilis).
Maintenance
In poorly-drained soils, crown rot is a common problem. After 2-3 years, plants should be divided to avoid overcrowding.
