Bloodroot (Sanguinaria canadensis) is an ephemeral plant with white flowers in very early spring. They prefer mesic soil in part sun to shade where they grow to less than 1 foot tall. They are a good choice for shaded banks and slopes. Companion plants include Rosy Sedge (Carex rosea) and White Wood Aster (Eurybia divaricata).
Maintenance
No serious maintenance needs. Nearby plants should be designed to fill in the gaps left behind when the plant goes dormant in the summer.
