Bottlebrush Grass (Elymus hystrix) is a structural plant with grassy foliage and interesting seed structures in summer and fall that are showy. They prefer mesic in part sun to light shade. They grow to 4 feet tall and are a good choice for slopes of bioretention plantings. Companion plants include Tall Bellflower (Campanula americana) and Marginal Wood Fern (Dryopteris marginalis).
Maintenance
No serious maintenance needs. Cut foliage back to 3 inches in late winter.
