Bush Honeysuckle

Diervilla lonicera

Not to be confused with Illinois invasive Honeysuckles including Lonicera maacki, L. tatarica, and L. morrow, native Bush Honeysuckle is a structural shrub with yellow blooms in summer. They also have good fall color. They prefer mesic to dry soil in sun to part sun where they can grow to be 3 feet tall and 4 feet wide. They are a good structural plant for slopes and banks. Companion plants include Foamflower (Tiarella cordifolia) and Pennsylvania Sedge (Carex pensylvanica).

Maintenance

Prune as desired post-bloom in early fall.
