Emory's Sedge

Carex emoryi

Emory’s Sedge (Carex emoryi) is a groundcover plant with grassy foliage through the growing season. They prefer wet to moist soil in sun to part sun where they can grow 3 feet tall. Colonies form as the plants mature, making them a good choice for groundcovers in wet, sunny basins. Companion plants include Southern Blue Flag Iris (Iris virginica var. shrevei) and Rose Mallow (Hibiscus laevis).

Maintenance

If not supported by surrounding plants, Emory’s Sedge may flop in summer. In late winter or early spring, cut the dead foliage back to 4 inches.
