Foxglove Beardtongue (Penstemon digitalis) is a seasonal plant with white flowers from spring into early summer. They prefer mesic soil in sun to part sun where they grow up to 3 feet tall. They are a good choice for slopes. Companion plants include ‘Little Henry’ Sweet Coneflower (Rudbeckia subtomentosa 'Little Henry') and ‘Shenandoah' Switch Grass (Panicum virgatum 'Shenandoah').
Maintenance
Root rot can be a problem in wet soils. To prevent aggressive spread, deadhead post-bloom in June.
