Indian Grass (Sorghastrum nutans) is a structural plant with grassy foliage and good fall color. They produce seed structures in fall that are moderately showy. They prefer moist to dry soil in sun to part sun. They grow to 6 feet tall and are a good choice for sunny banks, slopes, and basins. Companion plants include ‘Iron Butterfly' Ironweed (Vernonia lettermanii 'Iron Butterfly') and Golden Alexanders (Zizia aurea).
Maintenance
Can be an aggressive species. Deadhead to prevent self-seeding. May need staking.
