Japanese Forest Grass (Hakonechloa macra) is a groundcover plant with flowy green foliage during the growing season. They prefer mesic soil in part sun to shade. They are a good choice on partly shaded or shaded slopes. Companion plants include False Solomon's Seal (Maianthemum racemosum) and Lady's Fern (Athyrium felix-femina).
Maintenance
Plants in sunny areas may scorch during hot summers, especially if adequate moisture isn't available. Plants may benefit from mulching in fall to prevent heaving during winter.
