Lead Plant (Amorpha canescens) is a structural plant with purple flowers in early to mid-summer. They prefer dry to mesic soil in full sun where they grow to 3 feet tall. They are a good choice for dry banks. Companion plants include Little Bluestem (Sporobolus heterolepis) and Aromatic Aster (Symphyotrichum oblongifolium).
Maintenance
Because this plant is high in protein, it is sought after by rabbits, deer, and other herbivores. Fencing will help young plants establish. No other serious maintenance needs.
