Northern Sea Oats

Chasmanthium latifolium

Northern Sea Oats (Chasmanthium latifolium) is a structural plant with moderately tall grassy foliage. They produce seed structures in summer and fall that are moderately showy. They prefer moist to wet soil in part sun. They grow to 5 feet tall and are a good choice for basins. Companion plants include Bluestar (Amsonia tabernaemontana) and Southern Blue Flag Iris (Iris virginica shrevei).

Maintenance

May need to be staked after setting seed. To avoid aggressive spreading by seed, cut off seedheads in fall.
