Purple Coneflower (Echinacea purpurea) is a seasonal interest plant with large, pink flowers in summer that continue to bloom sporadically into fall. They prefer moist to mesic soil in sun to part sun where they can grow to be 3 feet tall. They are a good choice for sunny slopes. Companion plants include Orange Coneflower (Rudbeckia fulgida) and Nodding Onion (Allium cernuum).
Maintenance
Purple Coneflower can be deadheaded if needed, though the seed is attractive to songbirds. Monitor annually for signs of Aster Yellows.
