Purple Poppy Mallow (Callirhoe involucrata) is a groundcover plant with magenta flowers in summer, with sporadic blooms through fall. They prefer dry to mesic soil in sun to part sun where they can grow 2 feet tall. They can sprawl up to 4 feet from the central plant, which makes them a good choice for groundcovers on banks and slopes. Due to their vigorous growth, they are best planted in a single species mass.
Maintenance
If branches get too long during the growing season, if they are encroaching on other plants, or are growing onto a sidewalk, trim them to the desired length. In late winter, trim back dead stems to the base of each plant.
