Royal Catchfly (Silene regia) is a seasonal interest plant with red flowers that bloom from early summer to fall. They prefer moist to dry soil in sun to part sun, growing up to 3 feet tall. If the soil it too fertile, they may tend to flop when blooming. They are a great choice for banks and slopes. Companion plants include Rosinweed (Silphium integrifolium) and Prairie Dropseed (Sporobolus heterolepis).
Maintenance
Plants may need staking once blooming begins in summer. Soils should be well-drained for optimal growing conditions.
