Spotted Bee Balm (Monarda punctata) is a seasonal plant with yellowish flowers in summer that tend to hold on into the fall. They prefer dry to mesic soil in full sun where they grow to 2 feet tall. They are a good choice for bioretention banks and slopes. Companion plants include Flowering Spurge (Euphorbia corollata) and Butterflyweed (Asclepias tuberosa).
Maintenance
Powdery Mildew is a common foliar concern, but can be mitigated by reducing dense nearby vegetation to improve air circulation. Other foliage issues may become apparent if planted in areas that are too dry.
