Yarrow

Achillea millefolium

Yarrow (Achillea millefolium) is a seasonal plant with white flowers in early to mid-summer. They prefer dry to mesic soil in full sun to part shade where they grow to 2 feet tall. They are a good choice for dry banks. Companion plants include Prairie Dropseed (Sporobolus heterolepis) and Butterflyweed (Asclepias tuberosa).

Maintenance

Stems can flop, especially in rich or moist soils. Trimming after the first bloom can tidy the plant and encourage more flowers. Deadhead to prevent aggressive spreading by seed. Can spreads quickly by rhizomes. Divide every 2–3 years to keep plants healthy.
