Allium 'Purple Sensation'

Allium 'Purple Sensation'

Purple Sensation' Allium is a spring ephemeral plant with purple or magenta flowers. They prefer average soil in sun or part sun making them well-suited for slopes and banks where they’ll grow up to three feet tall. They should be interplanted with species that fill in the voids left once dormant in summer. Companion plants include Prairie Dropseed (Sporobolus heterolepis) and Echinacea purpurea (Purple Coneflower).

Maintenance

Bulbs can be dug and divided every other fall. If desired aesthetically, spent flower stalks can be cut to the ground in early summer. After leaves turn brown or yellow, they can be cut to the ground.
